We’re thrilled to announce the return of our Essence of Mumbles Photography Competition for its second year!
This community project invites everyone — no matter your age, background, or experience — to share what Mumbles means to you through your camera or smartphone.
We’re not just looking for postcard-perfect views. We want to see the real Mumbles — the people, places, and moments that make our community unique. From candid portraits and everyday street scenes to hidden corners and local traditions, show us the authentic stories that bring this special area to life.

Terms and Conditions
- This community-driven photography competition is organised by the Mumbles Community Council (MCC) in partnership with All About the Image, Colliers Photo Imaging, and Theo’s Coffee Shop.
Key dates
- Submissions open between 14th November 2025 – 7th January 2026.
- Public exhibition Dates TBC.
- Announcement of winners, runner ups for each category – will be on the 19th January 2026
- A selection of photos will be displayed via MCC’s website (https://www.mumbles.gov.uk/) after the public announcement.
How to enter
- All entries must be submitted to via the website or QR code.
- The photography competition is free to enter.
Eligibility
- The photography competition is open to anyone, except employees of the MCC, their families, or any third party directly associated with administration of the prize draw.
- No more than 5 entries per person are permitted, and each entry may only be submitted to one category.
- Entries must be taken in Mumbles area (i.e. Mayals, Newton, Oystermouth, and West Cross).
- Photographs can be taken at any time after 1st January 2000.
- All entries must be original work and must not have been previously published or entered other photographic competitions.
- The entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photos entered.
Technical Requirements
- Entries should be no larger than 10MB and be at least 300dpi, and should be submitted as either JPEG or TIFF files with no watermarks, signatures or borders included.
- Permitted digital adjustments include tone and contrast, cropping, burning, sharpening, dodging, noise reduction, minor cleaning work, HDR, stitched panoramas. Any adjustments should not misrepresent the reality of nature.
- Entries must be accompanied by information that could include, but is not limited to: location, date, title of photograph and description.
- The images submitted must be taken with a camera or smart phone. Images generated by or edited with Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot be considered.
- For the avoidance of doubt, if your entry was captured in a public place, no consent from the people, including minors, featured in the entry is required. However, if the entry was taken in a private location, you must ensure that all persons featured have given their express consent. For vulnerable adults or individuals under 18, express consent from a parent or legal guardian is necessary.
Judging and notification
- The competition entries will be judged by a panel of four judges based on 2 key criteria: they should be aesthetically pleasing and explore the vibrant life in Mumbles.
- Not all photos will be selected for the exhibition.
- The winner and run-up of each category will be notified by email and will receive a £100 and £50 prize (in the form of Marks & Spencer vouchers), respectively.
- The winner/run-up will be notified by email (using details provided at entry) and must provide a postal address to claim their prize.
- If a winner/run-up is unable to be reached, after a reasonable number of attempts have been made to contact them, the MCC reserve the right to re-offer the prize in any future competition.
- The prizes are non-exchangeable and non-transferable.
Publicity
- Copyright will remain with the entrants, however, by entering the photography competition, you agree that images of your work may be used by the MCC for education, press, marketing and promotional purposes.
