Our flagship projects, the Skatepark and Underhill Park, will reach completion later this year and funding has also been allocated to deliver further improvements to the Langland Tennis and Basketball Courts.

The final part of the transfer of the overall management of the Ostreme Centre will complete on April 1st this year and our development partners, Down to Earth, are working hard to identify grant funding to enable us to move forward with a major refurbishment of the building. Money has been set aside in the budget to provide for any match funding needed to secure that grant funding.

However, much of our budget has been allocated to those many smaller projects and programmes such as the Family Fun Days, MumblesFest and other community events, wildflower planting and road safety that make a big difference to people’s day to day lives. Over £50,000 has been made available for grants to local organisations to deliver community projects.

The cost of living crisis was a significant factor in the decision-making, with councillors mindful of the pressures households are under. There were some difficult decisions made to ensure that the budget delivers on the needs and wants of our community while ensuring that the precept is kept at an affordable level. The budget was set at £603,400, requiring an increase in the precept of 5% - significantly below inflation. This means that a band D property will be asked to pay just 24p a month more than last year.

Council believes that the budget delivers excellent value for money and continues to make MCC one of the most progressive community councils that actively delivers for its taxpayers, their families and the wider population who visit and enjoy Mumbles.
