We are excited to launch the new Mumbles Buzz and Bloom gardening contest!

This contest shares the spirit of the Mumbles in Bloom contests from previous years, with a particular focus on gardening to support pollinators and other wildlife. As well as recognising exceptional gardens in Mumbles and encouraging more residents to take to the trowel and gain confidence in gardening, we want to create space for nature in our community.

Here are the categories that you can enter:

  • Best business garden.
  • Best ornamental garden.
  • Best wildlife garden.
  • Best school garden.
  • Best “grow your own food” garden. (Allotments accepted)
  • Best community garden project.

All entries are welcome, from window boxes to orchards. Whilst each category will have its own judging criterion, all gardens will be recognised for any effort made to support nature in their design.

Some ways you can make your garden more environmentally friendly include:

  • Using peat-free compost.
  • Using alternatives to chemical pesticides (such as companion planting)
  • Incorporating a pond or bird bath into your garden.
  • Recycling rainwater for use in your garden.
  • Planting pollinator friendly plants.
  • Repurposing materials for creative use in your garden.
  • Leaving piles of dead wood for invertebrates.
